Donor privacy policy

Our specific commitments to people who donate to The Shared World Project. Last updated 2026-05-08.

Last updated: 2026-05-08.

The short version

  1. We never sell, trade, or rent donor information.
  2. We never share your identity as a donor without your explicit permission.
  3. You can be anonymous: just check the box on the donation form, and your name will not appear in any public list.
  4. We never disclose donation amounts publicly attached to a name.

What we collect when you donate

Name, email, donation amount, date, designation, and any tribute/memorial information you provide. Card details are handled by Stripe and never reach our servers.

How we use donor data

  • Send your tax receipt.
  • Acknowledge your gift (a personal note for major gifts; a thank-you email for all gifts).
  • Update you on the impact of your contribution if you opted into the newsletter.
  • Maintain donation records for the IRS, our auditors, and our own program reporting.

Public recognition

We do not list donors publicly by default. If we publish a donor recognition page in the future, you must affirmatively opt in before your name appears on it.

Tribute and memorial gifts

If you make a tribute gift and provide a notification email for the honoree or their family, we send a notification confirming the gift was made, but we never disclose the amount.

Donor Bill of Rights

The Shared World Project subscribes to the principles of the Donor Bill of Rights. Among other things, this means you have the right to know how donations are used, to access our most recent financial statements, and to be assured your gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
