Acceptance
By using sharedworldproject.com you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
What this site is
sharedworldproject.com is the public website of The Shared World Project (SWP), a 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN 39-4633454) and the charity arm of Netism. The site exists to inform the public about our work, accept donations, and connect volunteers and partners with our programs.
Permitted use
- You may read, share, and link to pages on this site freely.
- You may quote brief excerpts of our writing in journalism, education, or commentary with a credit and link.
- You may not scrape the site for unrelated commercial use, attempt to bypass security, or upload malicious code.
Donations
Donations are processed by Stripe. By donating, you confirm that the payment method belongs to you and that the contribution is unconditional. No goods or services are provided in exchange. See our donor privacy policy for how we handle your information.
Refunds: please email hello@sharedworldproject.com within 14 days of a contribution if you need a correction or refund.
Volunteer + partner submissions
By submitting a volunteer, partner, or contact form, you grant us permission to contact you about that inquiry. We do not pass your information to outside parties (see privacy policy).
Volunteer participation, self-responsibility, and insurance
Volunteering with The Shared World Project is voluntary. Before you participate in any Shared World project, build day, drive, or hosted event, you must read and electronically sign the Shared World Volunteer Master Release & Self-Responsibility Acknowledgment. Two things are essential to understand up front:
- Shared World does not provide health, accident, disability, or personal liability insurance for volunteers. You are responsible for carrying your own insurance — health, accident, auto, and any other coverage you want — and for any costs arising from injury, illness, or property loss during participation.
- You assume the inherent risks of volunteer work and release Shared World, its parent organization Netism, its coalition nonprofits, host communities, partners, directors, officers, employees, agents, and fellow volunteers from liability for injuries arising out of your participation, to the fullest extent permitted by Texas law. The nonprofits in the Shared World coalition are not responsible for injuries.
The full waiver text is published publicly at /legal/volunteer-acknowledgment so you can read it before signing up. Each signed copy is hashed against the version you signed and emailed to you, and you can revoke future media use at any time. Minors (under 18) cannot sign for themselves — a parent or guardian must sign a separate guardian consent.
Intellectual property
The Shared World Project name, logo, copy, photography, and original site design are property of The Shared World Project. Open documents and curriculum we publish under explicit open licenses are governed by their stated license.
Third-party services
Some pages embed services from third parties (Stripe, Mailchimp, Amazon SES, Cloudflare). Those services have their own terms. Using our donation form, for example, means Stripe's terms apply to the payment portion of that interaction.
No warranty / limitation of liability
The site is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We work hard to keep information accurate but make no guarantee. To the maximum extent permitted by law, SWP and its parent organization, directors, employees, and volunteers are not liable for any indirect or consequential damages from your use of the site.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas (where The Shared World Project is incorporated), without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Venue for any dispute is Waller County, Texas.
Changes
We may revise these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date.
